What This Helps With

This stops you treating every junction the same. Some junctions give you a clear view early; others need a much slower approach.

The Simple Version

Open junctions give you an early view. Closed junctions hide the road until late, so you need to slow right down and often use first gear.

Common Mistakes

  • Approaching closed junctions in second gear too quickly.
  • Stopping at every open junction when it is clearly safe.
  • Rolling over the give-way line to get a view.
  • Guessing instead of slowing enough to see.

What Examiners Care About

They want your speed to match your view. Poor view means slower speed and better control.
