What This Helps With

This helps you park at the side of the road neatly during lessons, on test, and in normal driving.

The Simple Version

Look where you want the car to go, keep the speed low, use gentle braking, and make small steering changes. Do not stare at the kerb.

Common Mistakes

  • Staring at the kerb and steering into it.
  • Stopping too far away because you are scared of hitting it.
  • Braking sharply at the end.
  • Turning in too late and needing a big correction.

What Examiners Care About

You do not need to be perfect, but you should stop safely, under control, and reasonably close to the kerb.

Practise On Your Next Lesson

Ask to practise stopping in different places: straight kerbs, curved kerbs, uphill, downhill, and behind parked cars.

Ask Your Instructor

"Am I looking too much at the kerb when I pull in?"

Quick Self-Check

  • Was my speed slow enough?
  • Did I stop close without hitting the kerb?
  • Did I keep looking ahead as well as checking position?
