What This Helps With
Traffic lights are simple until learners approach too fast, panic at amber, or misunderstand green arrows.
The Simple Version
Look well ahead. If the lights have been green for a while, expect they may change. Amber means stop if you can do so safely.
Common Mistakes
- Speeding up to beat amber.
- Braking harshly when it was unsafe to stop.
- Stopping over the line.
- Thinking a green light always removes other priority rules.
What Examiners Care About
They want safe anticipation: no sudden harsh braking, no red-light mistakes, and no rushing into blocked junctions.
Practise On Your Next Lesson
Ask your instructor to talk through amber decisions after each set of lights.
Ask Your Instructor
"Was that a safe stop, or should I have continued?"
Quick Self-Check
- Did I see the lights early?
- Was my amber decision calm?
- Did I stop before the line?
